Dr. Anil K. Gupta is the Michael D. Dingman Chair in Strategy, Globalization and Entrepreneurship and Distinguished Scholar-Teacher at the Smith School of Business, The University of Maryland at College Park. Anil also serves as chairman, The China India Institute, a Washington DC-based research and consulting organization. He has earlier served as a Chaired Professor in Strategy at INSEAD and a visiting professor at Stanford University and Dartmouth College. He received a doctorate from the Harvard Business School, an M.B.A. from the Indian Institute of Management at Ahmedabad, and a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur.
Anil is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading experts on strategy, globalization and entrepreneurship. Tomi Laamanen is Chaired Professor of Strategic Management, Director of the Institute of Management, and Director of the PhD Program of Strategy of the University of St.Gallen (2011-). Before that he was Professor of Strategic Management and Director of the Institute of Strategy at Aalto University (1997-2011), Dean of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management (TKK, Tuotantotalous) (2001-2002), and visiting professor at the St.Petersburg State University’s Graduate School of Management (GSOM) (2011-2013). Tomi holds two doctoral degrees; one in Strategy and one in Finance.
Tomi Laamanen’s research focuses on strategic management with a special emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, management’s cognition, strategy process, capability dynamics, and management’s cognition. Tomi is Associate Editor of the Strategic Management Journal and member of the Editorial Boards of Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Discovery, Journal of Management, and the recently launched Africa Journal of Management. At the moment, Tomi chairs the Strategic Management SIG of Euram, the Strategy-as-Practice (SAP) division of the Academy of Management, and co-chairs the the Strategy Research Foundation (SRF) of the Strategic Management Society, and the upcoming Strategic Management Society Special Conference in St.Gallen 2015.
In addition to teaching and research, Tomi has actively worked with a number of firms in different roles as Chairman, Member of the Board, or consultant.
Dr. Pekka Mattila serves as a Professor of Practice at the Aalto University School of Business. He works frequently with both European and Asian executive audiences on themes of strategic management and agility, strategy co-creation, business model innovation, executive leadership, top team dynamics, change management, organizational culture and strategic marketing. Since spring 2011 he has served as the Group Managing Director and Associate Dean of Aalto University Executive Education. In addition to his academic activities Dr. Mattila has conducted an active business career. Currently he serves as the Chairman of the Board or as a Member of the Board at a number of innovative companies. Previously he served in executive, management and senior staff positions in the Nordic financial services industry. From 2012 till 2014 he served as a board member at a leading Finnish bank.
Dr. Mattila holds a doctorate and masters in sociology at the University of Helsinki and an Executive MBA at London Business School. Over the years, he has frequently visited a number of prestigious European and Asian universities teaching management, organizational behaviour, marketing and sociology. Currently he is an External Examiner for the prestigious London College of Fashion, part of University of the Arts of London.
Dr. Mattila has authored a number of managerial books on leadership, change management and strategic marketing and sales. Currently he serves as the Chairman of the Board for the foundation operating the renowned Helsinki Festival and as a Member of the Board at the Finnish Society of Crafts and Design (Design Forum Finland). Dr. Mattila’s consulting and coaching career started in 2003, and his corporate clients comprise over 230 Nordic and international companies, entrepreneurial ventures as well as prominent public sector and academic institutions.
