YTK:n Pitkän kurssin Tähtiluento: Soft Cities – Even in Hard Times?
In the last couple of decades, it has become commonplace in urban planning to state that we need more dense urban environments. David Sim, the author of the book “Soft City: Building Density for Everyday”, argues, however, that density on its own is not enough. In a good city, the buildings should support a multitude of relationships: between people and place, people and planet, and people and other people. We should build not only denser but also more diverse places that enhance the everyday life of people.
In this lecture, David, a longtime Partner and Creative Director in Jan Gehl’s office, will discuss his lessons from the office, soft city principles, and life and challenges after Covid-19.
YTK:n Pitkän kurssin Tähtiluento is part of YTK:n Pitkä kurssi, expertize program for urban planning (in Finnish). Tähtiluento is organized in co-operation with Nordic City Making Week.
