Global Leader

Skills and Confidence for Managing Across Functions in a Global Context

Global Leader is a general management training program that can be adapted to your personal development needs and time frame. The program helps you to strengthen your strategic skills to manage interlinked functions in a multinational environment and learn more about different areas of business that impact your career potential.

Global Leader has a very similar program structure, participant profile, and studying format to our MBA programs, and is often utilized as a springboard to MBA studies, especially Aalto EMBA studies. Studying in the Global Leader program offers many benefits, not only for those who just wish to study in a compact and efficient general management program, but also for those who are planning to pursue future studies in our EMBA or MBA program.

Up to six Global Leader modules (27 ECTS credits) can be transferred from the Global Leader program to the Aalto Executive MBA or Aalto MBA program.

Core Modules

Elective Modules

As a full program participant of Global Leader, you may choose two elective modules from a large selection offered in the Global Leader, Aalto EMBA, and Aalto MBA programs. You can pick your favorites from a selection of more than 15 topics.

Self-Leadership

Professor Esa Saarinen’s unique Self-Leadership module is the only elective module organized within the Global Leader program. The aim of this three-day private mental spa is to build long-term perspectives, success, and happiness in life and to grow as a human being.

The module draws from cutting edge research on optimal human functioning and happiness, but it is decidedly non-instructional, aiming primarily at facilitating personally relevant openings in the thinking of the participants by the participants themselves as individuals. Participants are offered a unique, intimate and safe environment to deep dive into their own thoughts and take further steps on a journey of self-leadership through storytelling.

Objectives:

  • The module offers a respectful and dynamic platform to reflect on the bigger picture of your life, values, and innermost personal aspirations.
  • We seek for long-term perspectives, success, and happiness in life, consciously setting aside the task-related performance mode in favor of deliberation and reflection.
  • We build on the personal strengths of each individual respecting the specifics of each participant’s life, challenges, and possibilities.
  • Growing as a leader means first growing as a human being

Other elective modules available include, for example,

  • Corporate Entrepreneurship
  • Design Thinking
  • Digital Strategy and Transformation
  • Managing Creativity
  • Mergers and Acquisitions
  • international Study Tours and Aalto Executive Summits

Study Tours

A study tour normally involves a 4 or 5-day study period designed to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the international business environment. These tours have taken participants to locations such as New Haven and Boston in the USA. The study tour module program includes lectures by academics – in New Haven professors from Yale and in Boston professors from Harvard – typically related to the current topics of international corporate strategies, leadership, innovation, finance, and the characteristics of the local business environment. Time is also allocated for extracurricular activities to give participants an opportunity to network and meet with the local business community.

There is a separate registration process (limited seats available) and a separate fee for study tours.

Aalto Executive Summit

The Aalto Executive Summit brings together Aalto EMBA, Aalto MBA, and Global Leader participants and alumni from around the world. During one intensive week, you will study with highly renowned international guest speakers and faculty while enjoying a unique opportunity to meet business leaders and network with Summit participants. The Aalto Executive Summit location alternates between Helsinki and Singapore.

There is a separate registration process (limited seats available) and a separate fee for the Summit.
